  Founded in 1801 (Kyowa 1) when the founder Yohei Suzuki established a cargo ship trading house (Harimaya), the company was reorganized as Shimizu Foods Co., Ltd. in 1929. The company pioneered insulin manufacturing from tuna viscera in 1941, began producing mayonnaise and tonkatsu sauce in 1949, and launched Japan's first polyethylene tube mayonnaise in 1956. The Shimizu Foods Yaizu Plant was completed in 1974. SSK Foods Co., Ltd. was established in June 1978 with a new mayonnaise production line. After acquiring the mayonnaise manufacturing division in April 1984, the company commenced in-house production. The Shizuoka Plant (Oigawa Town) was completed in March 1990, followed by headquarters relocation to Izumi-cho, Shizuoka in 1991. The company was reorganized as Yaizu SSK Foods Co., Ltd. in March 1999 and relocated headquarters to Suzuyo Shizuoka Building in June 1999. A new mayonnaise plant was completed in February 2002, followed by a merger with Yaizu SSK Foods in October 2004. The company launched powdered soft drink production and established the Agriculture Business Division in 2010, opened the Naha Branch and obtained ISO22000 certification in 2011, and the Yaizu Plant's beverage division obtained FSSC22000 certification in October 2012. The Shizuoka Plant acquired FSSC22000 certification in May 2018, and the Fujieda Plant commenced operations in 2022.
