  Founded in November 1941 by Masuda Yoichi as Toa Pharmaceutical Chemical Research Institute, the company was reorganized as a corporation and renamed Toa Pharmaceutical Industries Co., Ltd. in January 1948. The company launched its active bacterium formulation Biosthree in May 1963 and established Toa Shinyaku Co., Ltd. in July 1963. The Tatebayashi plant in Tatebayashi City, Gunma Prefecture was completed in March 1968, followed by the head office building in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo in January 1979. International operations commenced in January 1985, with Biosthree H launched in April 1988 and Biosthree Hi tablets introduced in October 1996. A culture building was completed within the Tatebayashi plant in January 2013, and a new pharmaceutical formulation building was constructed in January 2018. Biosthree combination OD tablets were released in February 2016, and Masuda Tomohide assumed the position of Representative Director and President in February 2019. The Tatebayashi plant obtained feed GMP certification in December 2022. The company participated in the Renewable Energy 100% Declaration RE Action in May 2023 and obtained EU feed additive sales approval in December 2023. In September 2024, Biosthree Ace H received EU feed additive sales approval.
