Company History of Kawaken Fine Chemicals Co., Ltd.

  Founded in 1945 by Dr. Yaso Kawakami within the Tokyo Industrial Experiment Laboratory as a technical consulting and commissioned research facility, Kawaken Fine Chemical Co., Ltd. was formally established as a corporation in 1949. The company relocated its factory to Omiya in 1950 and began development, production, and sales of sponge metal catalysts in 1953. In 1957, the headquarters moved to Nihonbashi-Kobunacho, Ogura Building, where the surfactant product 'Amizol' was developed and launched. The factory transferred to Kawagoe in 1960, and the company name was changed to Kawaken Fine Chemical Co., Ltd. in 1964. In 1974, Yotsuba Oil Chemical Co., Ltd. became a 100% subsidiary. Takeo Fine Chemical Co., Ltd. and Enshu Fine Chemical Co., Ltd. were established in 1977 and 1982 respectively. Thai Kawaken was founded in 1984. The headquarters relocated to Nihonbashi-Horidomecho in 1989 with the introduction of corporate identity. ISO9002 certification was obtained in 1998. A large-scale GMP factory was constructed at Enshu Fine Chemical in 2002. In 2003, Takeo and Enshu merged, company-wide ISO9001 certification was achieved, and Saitama and Fukui factories obtained ISO14001 certification. The Shizuoka Plant's sixth plant B area was completed in 2006 with pharmaceutical manufacturing authorization obtained. Shizuoka Plant acquired ISO14001 certification in 2010. The inspection building and comprehensive building at Saitama Plant were completed in 2014. In 2015, the company celebrated its 70th anniversary and expanded Shizuoka Plant's land. A comprehensive building was completed in the eastern area of Shizuoka Plant in 2021. The second acid chloride factory at Fukui Plant was completed in 2022. Shizuoka Plant's eighth plant was completed in 2023. The company will celebrate its 80th anniversary in 2025.
