Founded in February 1945 as Fuji Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. in Nishi Ward, Nagoya, the company began manufacturing and exporting Vitamin AD oil in January 1947. In April 1953, it changed its trade name to Meito Sangyo Co., Ltd. and commenced candy manufacturing. Dextran plasma substitute production began in February 1954, followed by ice cream manufacturing at the Fukuoka Plant in April 1957. The company was listed on the Nagoya Stock Exchange in February 1959 and on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in October 1961. The Hachioji Plant was constructed in November 1964 for lipase production. A dextran iron manufacturing plant was established in March 1990, and the Rennet Plant was completed in February 2005. The Komaki Plant was constructed in June 2010. In 2016, both the Hachioji and Nagoya Plants obtained FSSC22000 certification. The Komaki Plant received FSSC22000 certification in January 2018 and won the Energy Conservation Award. The Seto Plant was constructed in September 2018 for chocolate manufacturing. In April 2022, the company transitioned to the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market. In September 2025, the company changed its trade name to 株式会社meito.
