  Nanki Umeboshi Co., Ltd. traces its origins to June 1948 when Susumu Hosokawa established Hosokawa Shoten. The company was formally incorporated in May 1974 with Susumu Hosokawa as Representative Director. The headquarters factory obtained JAS certification in May 1976. A subsidiary, Nanki Umeboshi Sales Co., Ltd., was established in October 1988, followed by the completion of new headquarters and factory facilities in September 1989. A Tokyo office was opened in April 1992, and the flagship retail store Ume no Nanki launched in November 1994. Following a merger in October 2004, the company relocated to Banno, Minabe Town, Hidaka District. The company received Wakayama Prefecture's Sanitation Management Promotion Facility certification in December 2005 and HACCP Implementation Sanitation Management Facility certification in August 2008. In March 2010, Nanki Umeboshi became an industry pioneer in obtaining SGS-HACCP certification. Yukihiro Hosokawa assumed the position of Representative Director and President in August 2010. The company celebrated its 70th anniversary in May 2018. Organic JAS certification was acquired in April 2019, followed by obtaining a liquor manufacturing license and commencing umeshu production in June 2019. The umeshu product Pikaichi received GI Wakayama Umeshu certification in October 2020. The company obtained SQF international food safety certification in December 2020, becoming an industry pioneer in this credential. The 2023 warehouse was completed in November 2023. A change in representative directorship occurred in July 2024, with the new product Maken Ume launching in June 2025.
