  Founded in April 1950 by Hana Yamada as Yamasa Dairy (Yamasa Nyugyou), an ice candy manufacturer, the company was taken over by Shigeru Yamada in January 1957. The company launched "White Ice" and "Momotaro" products in May 1962, established Daiichiashokuhin Ltd. (a limited liability company) in April 1970, completed its headquarters and manufacturing facility in Bunsuimachi in May 1972, and incorporated as a joint-stock company in January 1976. An 800-ton freezer facility was established in Akebono-cho in September 1996, and nationwide distribution expansion commenced in October 1999. The "Zeitaku Monaka" series was launched in February 2000, private label manufacturing began in July 2002, and a new factory in Akebono-cho was completed in March 2004. PB product manufacturing for STORE100 commenced in January 2009. Through a spin-off in June 2010, Daiichiashokuhin Co., Ltd. was established with Hiroyuki Konishi as Representative Director. ISO9001 certification was obtained in February 2011, and MOCHIMORE was launched in November 2017. ISO22000:2005 and ISO22000:2018 certifications were acquired in February 2019 and February 2020 respectively. The iceplantze product line was introduced in December 2020. In March 2022, the company entered into a capital and business alliance with Chuo Dairy (Chuo Nyugyou), with Makoto Ogino assuming the position of Representative Director. Hiroko Konishi became Representative Director in December 2023.
