  Founded in 1940 by Kunishi Shiozaka as Suruga-ya Food Research Laboratory in Kambara, Shizuoka Prefecture, the company incorporated as a manufacturing enterprise in 1953. In 1955, it successfully developed salt granules and began producing sesame salt products. The company achieved the industry's first egg granulation in 1959, and established Japan Furikake Food Co., Ltd. as a sales subsidiary in 1960. In 1963, it launched the industry's first bonito flake furikake. The manufacturing company was renamed Nichifuri Food Industry Co., Ltd. in 1967, with sales offices opened in Tokyo and Osaka. In 1976, the head office factory was relocated to a new facility, and the industry's first portion-type product "Otanoshimi" was introduced. Following a corporate identity initiative in 1990, the sales company was renamed Nichifuri Food Co., Ltd. In 2007, Okaka Furikake received Shizuoka Mini HACCP certification, and in 2018, Nichifuri Food Industry Co., Ltd. Kambara Plant obtained FSSC 22000 certification.
