  Founded in March 1935 by Masasaku Hisano as Hisano Shoten in Shiroinokoshi, Yaizu, Shizuoka Prefecture, initially engaged in the production and sales of shaved bonito flakes. The factory was relocated in May 1944, and the company was incorporated as Yaizu Sessetssu Co., Ltd. in April 1951. Bonito processing began in 1960 with the construction of a bonito processing plant. In May 1969, the headquarters relocated, establishing integrated production operations. The company obtained JAS certification in October 1971, was certified as a HACCP-compliant factory for export to the United States in May 2002, and opened a direct sales store called "Katsuobushiya" in July 2008. The company changed its name to Shin-Marusei Co., Ltd. in October 1990.
