  Union Chemcar Inc. was founded in 1905 by Yasuke Kosaka, beginning production of Japanese-style carbon paper. The company was incorporated as Carbon Paper Co., Ltd. in 1920 and commenced manufacturing of Western-style carbon paper. In 1950, it developed and began producing back-coated carbonless copy paper. The company developed and produced NCR paper "Unicoat" in 1962, followed by "Hicopy" in 1963. Computer terminal ribbons were introduced in 1971, the same year the head office relocated to Hirakata, Osaka. Thermal ribbon production started in 1983, and the company changed its name to Union Chemcar Inc. in 1986. International expansion began with the establishment of a UK office in 1989, followed by operations in China and the United States in 1992, the Netherlands in 1999, Germany in 2007, Shanghai in 2013, and India in 2017. An edible ink laboratory was opened in 2016, and the WOCCS brand was launched in 2019. The company celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2020 and received the 2021 Osaka Excellent Manufacturing Company Award - Dream, Future, and ORIST Prize.
