  Founded in 1855 (Ansei 2) as a traditional herbal medicine wholesaler in Dōshōmachi, Osaka under the trade names "Ōmi-ya" and subsequently "Inui Ui," the company was inherited by Inui Uibei I in 1880. The Namba Factory was established in 1905 for licorice root processing, followed by the Sakai Factory in 1911 for mosquito coil manufacturing. In 1913, a Dalian branch office was opened, and the Dalian Factory began operations in 1914 for licorice extract production and export. Inui Ui Shōten Corporation was incorporated in 1917, followed by the establishment of Inui Ui Food Products Co., Ltd. in 1921. The company began manufacturing and selling the bath additive "Onsense" in 1933, and changed its corporate name to Inui Ui Eiyō Kagaku Co., Ltd. in December 1934.
