  Founded in 1923 as Maruwao Shogai by Naoshichi Takahashi with a margarine factory at the current headquarters location, the company was renamed to Maruwao Oil & Fat Co., Ltd. in 1947 with a capital of 180,000 yen. In 1965, a Danish-made Perfekta margarine production plant was installed. The company built Japan's first dedicated school lunch factory in Kasukabe, Saitama Prefecture in 1968, and fully relocated the headquarters factory to Kasukabe in 1971. A German-made margarine plant was added in 1974. Mayonnaise JAS certification was obtained in 1976. The company received the Minister of Education Award for contributions to school lunch programs in 1984 and the Minister of Health Award for excellent facilities and hygiene in 1989. The Eigenji Distribution Center in Shiga Prefecture opened in 1993 and was renamed as the Shiga Factory in 1999 with Mayonnaise JAS certification acquired. The Nasu Factory in Tochigi Prefecture was completed in 2001, obtaining HACCP system certification in 2003. In 2011, the Kasukabe Factory acquired HACCP system certification, the Bihoro new factory in Hokkaido was completed with Carbon Offset certification, and the company received the 45th Good Company Award Excellence Award. The Maruwao Oil & Fat Distribution Center opened in 2012. The company celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2023. In 2024, the Hanyu Factory was completed, the Shiga Factory was renamed as the Shiga Distribution Center, and operations fully transitioned from the Kasukabe Factory to the Hanyu Factory.
