  The company traces its origins to 1948 when founder Zenhachi Matsuura began manufacturing malt syrup using locally-sourced sweet potatoes. Production of imo-matsuba commenced in 1953, followed by potato chips in 1968. The factory was rebuilt in 1989, and the company was formally established as Matsuura Foods Co., Ltd. in 1990. A new factory was constructed at its current location in 1998. In April 1999, the second-generation representative Yoshihiro Matsuura assumed his position.
