  Founded in July 1948 by Fujio Soga as Tokiwa Sangyo Corporation in Nakatsugawa, Gifu Prefecture, the company established Tokiwa Pencil Manufacturing in March 1961, opened a cosmetics division in Tokyo in November 1969, and commenced cosmetics production at its Nakatsugawa headquarters factory in May 1980. A new Tokyo Adachi factory was established in August 1988, followed by the merger of four companies to form Tokiwa Corporation in February 1991. The Ochiai factory in Nakatsugawa opened in April 1996, and Myanmar Tokiwa was established in December 1997. The company expanded globally with the opening of a Nagoya headquarters in March 2000, Kunshan Yongqing Cosmetics in Jiangsu Province, China in April 2003, a Paris office in May 2004, Sonax in Kawaguchi, Saitama in October 2005, and a New York office in April 2006. Following the transfer of its paper business operations to Japan Paper Pulp Trading in April 2009, the company relocated its headquarters to Tokyo. Subsequently, Tokiwa Subic was established in the Philippines in July 2015, the Toki factory opened in Toki, Gifu in March 2018, Tokiwa Cosmetics America was established and the Komaba factory was acquired in New Jersey, USA in April 2019, the Mizunan factory commenced operations in Mizunan, Gifu in January 2021, and in July 2024, a change in shareholders and a partnership with Japan Colmar Holdings Corporation took effect.
