  Founded in April 1940 by Eizo Kawahara (first generation), the company initially engaged in the manufacture of confectionery raw materials such as okoshi seed, contract processing for farmers, and barley tea production. Irinuka (rice bran) manufacturing began in 1957, followed by hinaarare (colored rice crackers) production in 1959 and mochi cake processing in 1963. Kinako (roasted soybean powder) manufacturing commenced in 1975. In 1977, Kawahara Seifun-sho was established as a limited company with a capital of 6 million yen, with Yoshiaki Kawahara (second generation) appointed as representative director. A portion of the factory was newly constructed in 1990. In 2016, Wataru Kawahara (third generation) assumed the position of representative director.
