Miyajima Shoyu Co., Ltd. was founded in June 1882 as a soy sauce and miso brewing business in Mizube-cho, Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture. The company was established as Miyajima Shocho Co., Ltd. in June 1918, followed by the construction of a second fermentation facility in Funamiya-cho, Karatsu in 1920. The headquarters were relocated to the current head office location in Funamiya-cho in 1934. In May 1950, the company split into Miyajima Shoyu Co., Ltd. and Miyajima Shoji Co., Ltd. Subsequent expansions included a sauce factory in April 1959, a vinegar factory in April 1960, a soup factory in September 1967, and a Myoken factory in June 1989. The Utsunomiya plant was opened in August 2000, acquiring SQF2000 certification in April 2005. The head office factory obtained SQF2000 certification in April 2012 and converted to natural gas fuel. The Myoken factory converted to LNG fuel in August 2013, while the Utsunomiya plant switched to natural gas fuel. The Myoken factory acquired SQF certification in July 2016. A fourth facility at the Myoken plant was established in April 2020, and a soy sauce production facility was added to the head office factory in August 2023.
