  Founded in 1931 as a marine products wholesaler in Hakodate, Hokkaido Dairy Co., Ltd. (北海道乳業株式会社) was established in 1953 after the founding of Tajima Sangyo Co., Ltd. in 1949 and the start of raw milk and ice cream manufacturing at the Hakodate Plant. The company expanded with the establishment of Tokyo and Aomori branches in 1954, a powdered milk manufacturing plant in 1955, a comprehensive dairy products factory in Showa-cho, Hakodate in 1962, Tokyo Sales Company (北海道乳業東京販売株式会社) in 1965, and a Sapporo office in 1967. The headquarters relocated to Showa-cho in 1971, followed by the opening of a Sendai office and expansion of the raw milk plant in 1979, establishment of a condensed milk factory in 1981, renovation of the butter factory in 1983, renovation of the powdered milk factory and consolidation of sales companies in 1985, renovation of the raw milk plant in 1990, renovation of the butter and cream factory in 1992, renovation of the raw milk and yogurt factory in 1994, expansion of the dessert factory in 1996, upgrade of the Osaka office to branch status in 2001, establishment of the Nagoya branch in 2004, opening of a cheese factory in 2007, renovation of the condensed milk factory in 2009, capital and business alliance with Nippon Ham Co., Ltd. (日本ハム株式会社) and consolidation of sales companies in 2016, and relocation of the Tokyo headquarters in 2024.
